12 Tips For Improving SEO On Your Wix Website

In this article, we will discuss 12 tips to help you improve SEO on your Wix website. We'll cover a wide range of topics including meta descriptions, content length, keywords, and more. By the end of this post, you should have a good understanding of what is necessary for effective SEO on your Wix site. Let's get started!

Proper Keyword Research

Proper keyword research is a must for effective SEO. When you are creating your website, make a list of the keywords that you would like to target. Don't use general keywords, rather use specific keywords related to products and services that you offer in your area. Wix offers a great tool for researching popular keywords called the Wix SEO Wizard. This tool will help you find the right keywords for your site.

Alternatively, there are many more powerful options out there, our Wix SEO service uses Ubersuggest, SEM Rush, and Google Keyword Planner.

Run The Wix SEO Wizard

When you create a new Wix website, the Wix SEO Wizard will automatically be set up. This wizard will help you to optimize your website and improve your search engine positions. This includes two sections in the editor: "SEO Basics" and "Advanced SEO".

In the SEO Basics, you can enter your website's title, location, and your top 5 target keywords. In the Titles & Metas section, Wix provides recommendations on how much metadata should be included in your page titles for optimal ranking.

Optimize Your Header Tags

Header tags (H tags) are the HTML elements that denote headings on a page. Wix allows you to input six header tags, and they should be used in order of importance starting with the H1 tag. The H1 tag is the most significant heading on your page, and it summarizes the entire page's purpose. Use an H2 tag after that, followed by H3, and so on.

Here is an example:

H1: Landscaping in Athens Georgia

H2: Our Athens Landscaping Services:

H3: Lawn Care

H4: Lawn Mowing

H4: Lawn Fertilizing

H3: Gardening

H4: Planting Flowers

H4: Weeding

To optimize your header tags in the Wix editor, simply highlight the text and select the corresponding header tag from the bottom of the toolbar.

Optimize Your Page URLS

Similar to meta titles and descriptions, Wix allows you to enter page URLs. Keep them human-readable by including your keywords in the URL (but don't overdo it). For example: "example.com/product" is much better than "example.com/fkdjfdj23423". It's also important. If the page only promotes a specific service in a specific location you can incorporate that into the URL as well. For example: "example.com/landscaping-services-athens".

Optimize Your Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions

Meta titles and descriptions are what will show up in search results. Wix allows you to enter meta information for the entire site, or just an individual page. You need to optimize your titles so that they include keywords, target location, and business name. Avoid stuffing too many keywords into your meta title and/or descriptions. You want them to sound natural while engaging viewers to click.

It's best to keep your meta titles between 55-65 characters long. This ensures the whole title is visible in search results on both desktop and mobile.

Meta descriptions should be between 150-160 characters (although they can go up to 300+), but again using 150-160 characters ensures that the whole description is visible. If the description is cut off, how can the viewer read it? Your SEO should always serve the user. Check out this sweet meta description length checker tool for Spotbio.

Create Awesome Content

One of the most important aspects of SEO is content. You need to produce high-quality, engaging content that answers users' questions and keeps them spending time on your site. Google wants to be right, they want to know that their suggestion solved the searcher's problem. The best way to do this is to keep people on your site and keep them coming back. Great content does just that. Not only will this help improve your SEO ranking, but it will also help you convert viewers into customers.

As a general guideline, each web page should contain at least 300 words.

Create a Google Analytics and Google Search Console Account For Your

Website

When it comes to SEO, data is key. In order for you to track your website's progress and measure your results, you need to set up accounts with both Google Analytics and Google Search Console. These tools will provide you with all the data that you need on how your website is performing in search engines. Wix also offers its own built-in website traffic monitoring tools as well, but we've found the best, most pinpointed and accurate information comes from Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

Internal Linking

Internal linking is another important part of SEO. Wix allows you to link to any page on your site or even specific elements within a page. This enhances user experience and can help improve search engine rankings. Do not hide links, be sure that anything clickable or linked is obviously a link (underline the text, or change the color). Use keywords as the linked text when possible. This is called anchor text.

Backlinking

In order to improve your SEO ranking, you need links from other sites pointing back at yours. You can use social media as well as directories such as Google, Yelp, Yahoo, and tons more. Another great way is to partner up with local businesses that could somehow relate to your business.

Example: Maybe you are a home builder, you could team up with some real estate agents and trade links on each other's sites. This gives you local authority and traffic back to your website - Google loves this! Warning - Don't buy bulk spammy backlinks.

Optimize Your Sites Images and Alt Tags

Wix automatically optimizes the size of your images however we still recommend making sure that your images are not too "heavy" so they don't slow down your page. Our Wix website designer loves the free image optimization tool called TinyPNG.

You can also optimize your images by adding keywords to the file name and including them in the alternate text (alt tag). This tells Google what the image is about and can help improve your ranking for that particular image. Alt tags should be concise yet descriptive with keywords (when possible), summing up what the picture is about.

To add alt tags to your images in the Wix editor, click on the image, click the settings icon, then enter the alt tag under "Image Text".

Start Blogging - With Intent

Blogs are a great way to add fresh content to your site on a regular basis. They also help with SEO as Google loves new, original content. Wix allows you to create blog posts and even includes a handy "SEO" checker that will help optimize your post for the best ranking possible. A blog is a great way to use keywords that are more specific or 'long tail". For example: "how to improve SEO on Your Wix Website".

Excellent Wix Website Design and Strategy

Don't get me wrong—SEO is important. However, if users land on your website and you don't appear professional or clearly communicate with them, all of that SEO work is pointless. Having a fantastic website design and a solid website content strategy is a must. This entails a clear simple message and knowing who you're targeting, what they want, and how to get them working with you.
